Person steals car with puppies in Southeast DC https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/washington-dc/person-steals-car-with-puppies-inside-in-southeast-dc/ Sat, 06 Jan 2024 21:52:46 +0000 https://www.dcnewsnow.com/?p=1689284 WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department said a person stole a car with multiple puppies still inside in Southeast D.C. on Saturday afternoon.

Police said that at about noon, the victim left their car on and unlocked with about eight puppies inside in the 1700 block of U St. Southeast.

Officers said the victim had their car keys with them.

An unknown suspect then took the car with the puppies inside.

"I really hope they find them," said Tearia Watkins, whose mother lives near where the crime happened.

This is the second known case involving a stolen dog in the District in less than a week.

Police reunited "Lola" with her owner on Wednesday. They said someone brought the dog to the police station after two suspects took her on New Year's Eve after they attacked her owner inside her Southeast home.

Police are still looking for the suspects in both incidents.

"I don't know if people are selling them for profit or if people are just, you know, wanting to make pets from somebody else's pet. I'm not sure," Watkins said.

Anyone with information is asked to call D.C. Police.
